Clare Burren Marathon Challenge
full marathon
Participants must be over 16 years of age.
Starts 9am from the Burren Coast Hotel, proceeding along the N67 Lisdoonvarna road. leaving the village of Ballyvaughan, take a right up Fineona road, turning left onto the green road passing the Burren College of Art, and follow on to Glenfort, passing Rathbourney Church to Poulacapple where we take a left and leave the green road for the trail to Lislarheenmore. Back on the green road again we proceed down to Fermoyle, see the ruins of Fermoyle chapel in use until 1870.
There we take a sharp left, followed by a right, and climb up the scenic Caher Valley trail. See the "Ould Sheebeen" and enjoy the beautiful Burren along the way. As Fanore comes into sight you will also have panoramic views of the Aran Islands and the South Galway coastline. Down to Fanore and take a right at O'Donoghue's Pub and head for Ballyvaughan passing the renowned Fanore beach on your left. Leaving the main road and taking the last trail over Blackhead descending at Gleninagh overlooking the Castle. Joining back onto the main road, along the coast, passing the Pinnacale Well, will take you back to the finish line at the Burren Coast Hotel.
